Trying Something New: Craigslist Ad

I decided to try offering my transcription services via an ad on Craigslist.  I recently posted my resume and got a couple hits/emails (though I was not interested in the positions). I made a quick ad and just want to see how it goes this week.  What do you think? http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/wet/5459569000.html Wish me luck!

To Job Hunt or Work from Home... or Both?

There is something to be said about just going with your gut. That's what I should've done last July. Here's the story. I was laid off from a law firm at the end of May after over three years of working due to just plain cuts and whatever management's other excuses were at the time. Note: They had been laying people off for more than a year here and there at that point. The money earned there was decent enough that I didn't have to supplement income by transcribing or working from home. I went back to transcribing, even working as a contractor for a previous employer (probably best decision of the year) and transcribed reports for a former coworker while his usual typist was away. Sure the saying is, "If one door closes, another one opens," or, "God must have something else in store for you." Well, okay then, as soon as I find that other door I will step through to what new is in store for me!

In Between Jobs

There are so many of us without employment these days.  Is that an understatement?  Maybe I should say there are TOO many of us without employment.  I was laid off in 2008 from a job I'd been at for over six years.  I didn't like it there so much at first but it grew on me and what I really loved about it was being busy.  I was lucky enough to get a contract position soon after.  That only lasted a couple weeks but I made enough of an impression to be asked back a few months later, which turned into a long-term contract that ended after two years.  The permanent position that was supposed to come after that... didn't.  Another contract position followed, which has ended.  I guess you could say that ended at the right time because my psoriasis was flaring up (I had, no have, a very flaky face, neck and chest). So right now, I find myself again in between jobs (real ones).  Most of my day is spent trailing the job sites, clicking Apply N...
