The 52-Week Money Challenge. I Did It!

I meant to mention this earlier but got distracted by searching for work! I finally managed to do this money challenge that has been floating around for quite some time now. It's one of the things I set to do this year and actually got accomplished. Like this article says, I "hacked" the challenge.  I decided to switch it up and do a fixed amount of $52.00 per week.  Ballsy, right? I made it through the year, minus the few weeks after I was laid off work, and got through the year without touching any of it (because I tell myself repeatedly that I'm simply not allowed to touch it). Next week I will start Money Challenge 2.0.  I have to figure out how to hack this year since I am starting out unemployed.

To Job Hunt or Work from Home... or Both?

There is something to be said about just going with your gut. That's what I should've done last July. Here's the story. I was laid off from a law firm at the end of May after over three years of working due to just plain cuts and whatever management's other excuses were at the time. Note: They had been laying people off for more than a year here and there at that point. The money earned there was decent enough that I didn't have to supplement income by transcribing or working from home. I went back to transcribing, even working as a contractor for a previous employer (probably best decision of the year) and transcribed reports for a former coworker while his usual typist was away. At the same time, I looked for a "regular" job. I was offered a position that I did not want to accept. The pay was a cut from the job at the law firm, I didn't like the area and did not like the feel of the office. On my way to the interview in the morning, tr...

Redesign? Expand? Yes.

I was starting to miss transcription (though not the late nights sitting at a computer and staring at the screen) after taking a break. I have been back at if just for a few weeks and, I'm pleasantly surprised, the work is pretty steady and expanding. It has made me consider (finally) updating my web site, using the actual Twitter account and keeping up to date with industry news (not only for transcription but virtual assisting). I am excited about where I can take this (again). But for now, let's finish this video!

Is the Economy Still Bad?

I am wondering this question after being laid off after three years just this past Friday. Sure the saying is, "If one door closes, another one opens," or, "God must have something else in store for you." Well, okay then, as soon as I find that other door I will step through to what new is in store for me!

Trivia Tuesday

I have been thinking of different things to do with my blog and am gonna give this a try. Which soundtrack album became the biggest selling of all time...in 1977?

Let it Go

No, I am not singing on a frozen mountain top.  I am talking about freeing up space. Is there something in your life you can live without?  Let it go. Are there items, things around you don't need or really use?  Let them go. Easier said than done, right?

Affirmation? Yes.

Saving Money in 2015

I learned about it a couple years ago but never actually did it. Well, this year I am actually doing the #52weekmoneychallenge and have been doing pretty well. However, I adjusted it a bit. I definitely recommend doing this if you can. We all know every little bit helps. I have one savings account now just to get things started. Within the next year I plan to open a separate "rainy day/medical" account. It's a good feeling. Happy saving! -Marci
